Red Cross Blood Donation April 2011

I’m back from my second blood donation of the year.  I got to use my Red Cross donor card this time.  As usual, I am woozy.  However, donating blood is always a wonderful experience and gives me the wonderful feeling that I’ve done something useful.  I also got cheese crackers!

I cannot say this enough:  Donate people! Donate!  It’s so easy.

At the moment, I’m chomping on strawberry pocky and contemplating steak, but I may have to settle for a slimjim.  Then, I think a nap is in order.

Much love for the weekend.

Donor Card!

Woot!  I received my blood donor card in the mail today.  I’m making it a personal goal to donate six times a year through my local Red Cross (that’s as much as you can donate in a year).  I’m excited.  I don’t get full on giddy about most activities, but donating blood is such a rush.  I feel like I’m addicted and want to go every month.  I love the idea of helping save lives.  All I do is sit there and drink a soda and eat some cookies while the nurse draws out the blood, and I save up to three lives every time.  It’s awesome!

I also get to meet interesting people.  The nurses are very nice and informative, and I’ve met people from all walks of life-from students to owners of local businesses.  I’m trying to talk my husband into donating with me.  He’s being a little shy about the needles.

Every single person who can donate should donate.  It’s frackin important.

Blood Donation at Red Cross

I donated blood today!  I made an appointment online at the Red Cross and spent about an hour getting questioned, tested, signed up, and poked with pointy objects.  I should receive a donor card in a month or two (that’ll make the process faster), and I plan on donating every two to three months from now on.  I really should have started something like this sooner.  I’m just so used to donating money that I never think about other forms of donation (I think that makes me lazy).  However, with the Hubby the only one employed at the moment, I needed to find another way support my favorite organizations.  Donating blood was the best way I could think of doing that.  And, like the nurse at the facility said, blood is priceless.

I feel a little woozy and was cold for a couple hours.  I’m just tired right now, but I feel wonderful that I was able to do something helpful.  And I got a neat red bandage.

Everyone who is able should donate.  You don't have to wait for a blood drive.
